Robert Ernst Bartell was born 3/26/1950 and died unexpectedly the morning of 10/20/2012, the Sweetest Day of the year.
Bob was born in Hornell, NY, to parents Ellen K. and Rollin (Bart) E. Bartell, and grew up on Genessee Street. He was baptized in St. Ann's Catholic Church (Our Lady of the Valley) and served as an altar boy there for many years. He attended SUNY Alfred and graduated from RIT (Rochester Institute of Technolgy). After college graduation, he began his career at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, NY, as Chief Financial Officer. His work opportunities as a financial officer of hospitals and clinics landed him in several states, having lived in upstate NY, Illinois, Oklahoma, temporarily in Albuquerque, NM, and finally, the Research Triangle Area of North Carolina.
Bob had a terrific sense of humor with an infectious belly laugh and boyish smile. He was compassionate and of generous spirit. He always took time to thank a Veteran for he understood the sacrifice and how fortunate he was that his number was not drawn for Vietnam. He enjoyed a great meal with a glass of Coca Cola and could find him cooking a pork tenderloin at 10 pm while watching Emeril on the Food Network. He appreciated all genre of music, enjoyed reading biographies, debating current events, and watching movies. He loved animals, but dogs were his favorite, and was always happiest when he was in the company of one.

Bob was well liked and loved by many. He is greatly missed. His memory (and laugh) lives on in his two daughters; Suzanne M. Davis (Bloomfield, NM), her husband Isaac W. Davis and their son, Elijah W. Davis; and Mary E. Bartell Parker (Winston-Salem, NC), her husband Aaron Parker, and their children, Kaitlin M. Bartell, Stephanie A. Parker and Benjamin R. Parker.
Bob is also survived by his brother, John Bartell (Hornell, NY), his wife Nancy K. Bartell and their children, Kevin J. Bartell, Mary B. Shutes, and Patrice Bartell; and his sister Nancy B. Martello (Webster, NY), her husband Charles (Chuck) Martello, and their children, Paul C. Martello, John Martello, Tom Martello, and Catherine Martello.
